Upwork allows the use of digital banks like Facebank and Wise for billing if you are in the U.S. and eligible to use your bank account. However, due to the third-party partnerships digital banks rely on, we may be unable to trace or resolve transaction issues, which can delay or prevent assistance with payment or refund problems.

Can I use a digital bank (Facebank/Wise) to pay my freelancers?

We accept digital bank accounts like Facebank, Wise, and other banks that partner with Wise as a billing method from U.S. clients who are eligible to use their bank account.

Why can’t Upwork help resolve issues with digital banking?

Digital banks rely on a partner (or intermediary) bank to process transactions with us. This extra layer makes tracing difficult—or sometimes not possible at all. Even when it is, it may take longer than the typical two to four weeks it takes with a traditional bank.

In short: digital bank delays or issues may take longer to resolve—or we might not be able to resolve them at all.
