We’re testing a new way for you to give feedback earlier—just 14 days into a contract. This test also gives you the option to include a bonus with your feedback. It’s only available to a limited group, so you may or may not see the new experience.
Mid-contract feedback lets clients recognize and reward freelancers during active contracts, helping motivate ongoing collaboration. It's available once every 30 days if certain criteria are met and won’t affect the freelancer’s Job Success Score. Feedback can be initiated by either party.

Why use mid-contract feedback?
Mid-contract feedback gives you the option to share public feedback with a freelancer before a contract ends. This helps recognize great work while it’s happening—not just at the finish line.
- Acknowledge great work midstream
- Motivate continued collaboration
- Optionally add a bonus to your feedback
Your feedback will appear on the freelancer’s public work history, but it won’t affect their Job Success Score (JSS).
Who can give mid-contract feedback?
You can leave mid-contract feedback on active contracts that meet all the following criteria:
- The contract started at least 30 days ago
- A payment has been made on the contract
- No mid-contract feedback has been given since that payment
- Only one mid-contract feedback can be given every 30 days
How to leave mid-contract feedback
If the contract is eligible, you’ll see a Leave Feedback button.
You might also receive a feedback request from your freelancer. If that happens, we’ll send you an email and a message in Upwork Messages.
What if I don’t act right away?
Once your freelancer requests feedback, you’ll have 14 days to respond. After that, the request expires—but you can still leave feedback later if the contract remains eligible.
Frequently asked questions
Does mid-contract feedback affect a freelancer’s Job Success Score?
No. Mid-contract feedback is public and shows in their work history, but it doesn’t impact their JSS. Only end-of-contract feedback is factored into the score.
Can I leave mid-contract feedback without a request?
Yes. If your contract is eligible, you can leave feedback at any time—even if your freelancer hasn’t asked for it.
Can freelancers respond to mid-contract feedback?
Not publicly. Freelancers can respond to end-of-contract feedback, but not mid-contract feedback. If you need to follow up, we recommend messaging your freelancer directly.
