Activities are client-defined tags used to categorize tracked time within hourly contracts, enabling better invoicing and reporting. Freelancers choose these when logging time, while memos describe specific tasks. Activities can be managed via the Activity management page, contract room, or work diary, and are editable by clients.
Activity tags tie your freelancer's time to different types of work, projects, or other trackable items within a single hourly contract. Freelancers can select from these tags when tracking time so all time is properly billed. You can also edit Activities in your freelancer's work diaries if you prefer to handle it yourself.
Use activities to improve invoicing by:
- Tracking time on multiple activities for a single freelancer
- Tracking time on a single activity across multiple freelancers
- Tracking time on multiple activities across multiple freelancers
Where do I manage activity tags?
- Activities management: Go to Reports > Spending by activity and choose the Manage activity codes button. This is the main page where you will create activities and assign them to contracts. You can also archive activities. Data for archived activities will stay in reports and can be unarchived to be used again.
- Contract room: You can access activities by going to Manage work > Your contracts and choosing the name of a contract
- Work diary: Go to Manage work > Work diaries and select the diary you want to review. The activity will be displayed above the screenshots with the memo in the form "[Activity]:[Memo]." Click on the Activity to edit it.
- Activities are client-defined categories tags. Contracts can be set up so your freelancer selects from these tags when tracking time to help you organize invoicing. Clients can edit activities in the work diary.
- Memos are written by freelancers to describe what they are working on while they log time. Clients can't edit freelancers' memos.
Activities and memos may be used together to complement each other, improve the accuracy of billing, and enhance transparency.
