Business Plus clients pay a 10% fee on freelancer payments, with a discounted 8% rate for eligible U.S. clients paying by checking account. While there’s no subscription fee, you may see other charges like a small contract initiation fee, Featured Job fees, or conversion fees depending on how you use Upwork.


Business Plus members benefit from more features and flexible payment solutions for eligible clients.

Business Plus is free to join, and when you hire on Upwork, you pay a 10% Business Plus Fee on all payments that you make to freelancers for fixed-price and hourly projects, Project Catalog projects, and bonuses.

A discounted Business Plus Fee of 8% is available for eligible clients in the U.S. who pay with a checking account. If you see it as an option in Billing & Payments when you begin to add a payment, you are eligible.

Depending on how you use Upwork, you may be subject to additional fees, including:

  • A one-time-per-contract Business Plus Contract Initiation Fee up to $4.99 USD for contracts of $100 USD or less
  • Featured Job Post Fee
  • Conversion Fee

Will switching my billing method impact my Business Plus membership?

You’ll be charged according to whatever billing method is on file. If a payment is released with your bank account (ACH) as your primary billing method, you’ll be charged 8%. If a payment is released with any other form of payment, you’ll be charged 10%.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my Business Plus membership plan at any time?

Yes, you can adjust your membership plan at any time. However, only the “owner” and “admin full” roles should be allowed to make plan changes.

Once a plan change is made, we'll notify your team members of the plan change by notification within Upwork.

What happens to my open contracts when I upgrade or downgrade my Business Plus membership?

When you change your membership, pre-existing open contracts and all new contracts will be charged the fee structure of whatever you switch to. All financial activity will follow the current membership plan at the time of the transaction.

What happens if my Business Plus billing method becomes inactive or expired?

If your billing method doesn’t work, you may be suspended. We recommend keeping an additional form of payment on file to avoid interruptions to work.

Do I pay the Business Plus Fee on bonus payments to freelancers?

Yes, the Business Plus Fee is applied to all payments that you make to freelancers for fixed-price and hourly contracts, Project Catalog projects, and bonuses.

Is there an extra fee to use monthly invoicing through Net-30 payments for Business Plus members?

No, there is no extra fee to use Net-30 monthly invoicing. However, this program requires an application.
